This is my blog. You will be able to follow my journey to and from Africa. Yes, Africa, specifically Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo. This summer 2009 will be my second trip in ten years, after summer 2008. It was an exciting trip and I anticipate the 2009 trip will be just as exciting. My first visit of Lubumbashi, D R Congo after so many years abroad was quite a surprise for my extended family, my old friends and me. I was glad to visit my old neighbirhood and am looking forward to more surprises. Six weeks were not enough to uncover some of my past and visit every bit of the city of Lubumbashi that I had come to know very well. It is not my city of birth. Kolwezi, which is 200 miles west Lubumbashi is. I hope to spend a good time with my friends and my extended family. Most of all, I am interested in touching base with children, teachers and principals. Education is my passion. It is a passion that I have cherished all my life. I want to learn how students are coping with school. I want to know how teachers manage their overcrowded classes on a daily basis. I want to be there to find ways to create conditions for a better educational system, equal and accessible for all.
I hope you will enjoy reading about my journey into the world of education, that you will be able to share with me what I am about to learn from my journey.
